Brattleboro School of Budo
Traditional Martial Arts

Sempai Rachel Johnson

I started training with Kyoshi Patrick Donahue at the Brattleboro School of Budo in 2004. I earned the rank of shodan (black belt) in Shorin Ryu Karate Do in July of 2008. In June of 2009 I was given the budojo title of Sempai. I also train in Aiki Budo, and practiced Kobudo (weapons) for about a year. Recently I started teaching an adult Karate class at the Brattleboro School of Budo. Also I really enjoy assisting Kyoshi Donahue with the childrens classes he teaches every week. I find that teaching helps my own practice tremendously.

I have had the privledge of training in seminars with the following teachers :
Soke Mike pabst (Aiki Budo)
Sensei Sali Azem (Shinbukan)
Master Teruo Chinen (Goju Ryu)
Sensei David Poulicakos (Okinawan Kobudo)

In my private life I am a waitress at a very busy restaurant and a single mother of a fifteen year old girl. I started taking karate so I could defend myself if need be, but after training for sometime I realized there was so much more to be gained. Not a day goes by that I don't apply the life lessons that Kyoshi Donahue teaches us.
