Firearms Related Certifications earned by Patrick Donahue:
I do get asked fairly often how firearms make their way into a traditional dojo? I am very mindful around the politics that do exist around firearms and people’s feelings on either side of the fence around this issue. I will give you my view on this and hopefully you can understand where I'm coming from without passing too much judgment from one side or the other. I am a firm believer in the second amendment. I believe all human beings have the right to protect themselves. I believe law abiding and sane citizens should have the privilege to be able to protect themselves even if firearms are the method of protection they choose. I do believe that law abiding and sane citizens should be educated before owning such a device. I believe education is the ONLY way to stop gun violence. There are millions and millions of firearms just in our country. They are not going anywhere in our lifetime regardless of what laws are put in place. Regardless of how you feel about firearms you are safer from firearm violence if you understand them and are educated about them. This does not mean you have to own one. To have some education around these devices is necessary if you are going to understand true self-defense.
As far as sports shooting or hunting I choose not to talk about these areas. If you have questions about my own morals and values and/or curiosity as far as firearms go in other areas besides self-defense and martial arts we can talk on a private basis. I am not pro-gun; I am pro-Second Amendment, and pro-firearm education. Please be careful of any labels when it comes to Sensei Donahue and this subject.
